POSITIVE SELF TALK FOR SELF HEALING

It is said to approach the person who we regard as our ideal guardian angel, whenever we are feeling low or are in some sort of trouble. We desperately want someone to talk to who would guide, motivate, and pull us out of the dilemma phase. Many times, people aren’t on the same boat which prevents them to interpret our trouble the way we intend to. Also, does anyone know you more than YOUR OWN SELF?

Self-talk, in simple words, is like having a conversation with yourself or having a dialogue with your inner voice. As a consequence of this, we can reach out to the solutions to our problems and take correct decisions, thereby providing us with a ray of hope in our dark times. Self-talk is both positive and negative depending upon one’s usual state of mind and perception.

POSITIVE SELF TALK

Positive Self-talk, according to me, is a psychological remedy to cut-down stress and confusion, enhance one’s expression, improve self-esteem and body image and most importantly reduce the risk of self-harm and suicide, but only if done in a positive way.

“WRITING IS LIKE TALKING TO YOURSELF JUST IN A WAY THAT MAKES IT LOOK YOU’RE NOT CRAZY! ”

                                                                                      –  MARY KATE

But does self-talk really make you look crazy?  I think not.

I have been self-talking for a long time now and it truly helps. Also, can a mirror be useful as a therapeutic passage for compassionate self-talk? Based on my personal experience, YES.

A well-defined mirror talk using hands and gestures with strong and impactful points upon random topics and even an accent that might add or act as a bonus point to any kind of formal speeches or even in conversations is what I’ve been practicing for an instance. Many times, one has issues understanding one’s own self. This activity makes it easier to know yourself and skillfully analyze your potentials.

For an instance, the majority of us saw the current COVID-19 pandemic as a plan destroyer or a halt to the normal daily life while it should’ve been taken as an opportunity to cultivate skills and doing things you have been procrastinating for long or wished to do.

NEGATIVE SELF TALK

Negative self-talk is just like our inner critic talking. We end up underestimating our abilities by demoralizing our own selves. It can be one of the reasons why our journey towards our goals is slowing down.

INSTANCES OF SELF NEGATIVE TALK YOU DON’T REALISE IS ACTUALLY “NEGATIVE”

  • USING YOUR HIDDEN TELEPATHIC  POWER :

Have you ever in your mind thought what the other person is thinking about you and assume with absolutely no evidence that it’s surely something negative?

Like after meeting a new person, one over thinks as to what kind of impression he left and what would his views be about me.

  • REGRETS, REGRETS AND REGRETS:

Have you ever focused on all the bad you have ever done and ended up feeling guilty or ashamed which allowed you to form a wrong perception of your own self?

By this, you do nothing but merely disappoint yourself which is also why we often lose sight of all the “GOOD” in our lives.

  • ANOTHER SUPERPOWER PEOPLE USE- CATASTROPHIC  PREDICTING :

Have you ever imagined the worst possible outcome of any of your action before even trying?

It surely pulls you back from trying with the fear always intact. It also prevents you to act when you’re supposed to, thereby increasing anxiety.

Martin Seligman, an American psychologist, refers to it as “ICEBERGS” which needs to be broken by questioning the logicality of such thoughts and thereby changing such beliefs.

HOW TO CHANGE THE NEGATIVE SELF TALK?

  • MAKING A CHANGE OF STATEMENTS :

More or less, everything depends upon perspective which you decide to choose, so why to think or in fact see things in a negative way?

Turning your negative thoughts into positive ones is how you can start.

INSTEAD OFSAY
“I always make a fool out of myself in front of everyone.”   “Why am I so UGLY ? ”           “ I’m a faliure, I can’t do it.”     “Why doesn’t luck favor me?”“It happens, no big deal. At least I tried .”     “Every person is different. I’ve skills which others might not have, so why not embrace that instead?”   “No matter how many tries it takes to succeed, I will do it! “ “THIS TOO, SHALL PASS.”
  • MIND IS VULNERABLE, EASILY ATTACKED.

Generally, people get attached and deeply affected by the TV shows or movies they watch because of the emotions portrayed which are not a good sign every time. Many fail to distinguish between reality and fantasy, causing a change in reasoning as well as in behavior. This, in turn, leads to negative self-talk.

Almost 24% of people aged 18-24 say that reality TV shows make them worry about their body image, according to the YouGov survey of 4505 UK adults.

Therefore, for a positive state of mind, a wise choice of watching and hearing the content is required.

  • ENVISIONING YOUR SUCCESS :

Visualizing your success is like in essence achieving your goals before you have physically achieved them. It will support a mental image of yourself and will give you a real push to try more and more. For instance, imagine the immense happiness you will feel after receiving all the results you strived for.

You can do this by setting smaller goals first, which would give you an insight into the bigger ones. This way you will be able to boost your self-esteem and would be able to engage yourself in positive self-talk, reminding your achievements to yourself by SAYING IT OUT LOUD.

STAY HAPPY, STAY POSITIVE.
